Tree of Wishes is an experiment into public discourse about desires for the community of Lyons, Nebraska. The installation was comprised of two bare tree branches with individual blank wish lists and an invitation to the public to add their ideas for Lyons to the trees.
Held in tandem with a Christmas tree festival at the Lyons Public Library, the installation offered a public site for discourse about the future of the community. Spectators were invited to physically alter the Tree of Wishes by adding to its “leaves” a wish for the town.
The project served as a public sounding board of ideas, with sketches and thoughts for Lyons twirling from branches.
